Veteran’s Park-Richfield-Minnesota

Today’s hiking adventure was at Veteran’s Park.

The temperature was a bit chilly today, -4 F with the air feeling like -12 F. With the sun shining, we set off on a short but beautiful winter hike.

The moon was still high in the sky as we hiked around Legion Lake.

After hiking around the lake, we decided to hike on the frozen lake.

Our hike ended at the Veterans Memorial.

Today’s hiking adventure was 2.9 miles.

Wood Lake Nature Center-Richfield-Minnesota

Today’s hiking adventure was at Wood Lake Nature Center which sits in the heart of Richfield, encompassing 150 acres.

The temperatures in Minnesota have dropped! When we began our hike it was 6 degrees with a real feel of -14. Burrrrr!!!!!

There is a long boardwalk that cuts across Wood Lake.

Hiking across the lake, the wind pierced our cheeks.

Interesting patterns emerged on the ice from the powdery snow blowing around.

From the snow covered mushrooms and cattails to the birds fluttering around, nature always seems to amaze me regardless of the season.

We continued along the trail crossing between sections of the lake and through the prairie.

Today’s hiking adventure was 3.5 miles.

Richfield Lake-Richfield-Minnesota

Minnesota had its first rainstorm of the year yesterday. During the overnight hours the rain turned to snow. I woke up to a magical winter wonderland of snow covered ice. Due to the icy roads, I decided to stay close to home. Richfield Lake is a small lake with a paved path surrounding it.

With a variety of trees and plant life covered in a fresh thick layer of snow, a winter paradise was created.

Raindrops froze in place overnight.

Several crossing bridges around the lake allow access to the surrounding neighborhoods.

There are plenty of places to rest and enjoy the view.

Many different species of birds and small wildlife call Richfield Lake home throughout the year. Today I was able to capture rabbit tracks in the snow.

Today’s winter wonderland hiking adventure was 3 miles.
